Program Descriptions
The summer clinic sessions include 4 different programs:
- Elite Development Centre (EDC)
- Beach Volleyball Development Centre (BVDC)
- Recreational Beach – Learn to Play
- Indoor Recreational – Learn to Play
Elite Development Centre
The Elite Development Centre (EDC) is an off-season program specially designed on providing Provincial, National & RTC athletes with high quality off season technical training. The main focus is on developing individual indoor technical skills throughout the summer.
EDC sessions will be held on evenings during the week and in blocks of 2 hours between 6pm to 10pm for a total of 6 hours/week. This clinic will run from June 23rd until August 15th for a total of 8 weeks and located throughout the Ottawa region (East, Central & West end).
Beach Volleyball Development Centre
The Beach Volleyball Development Centre (BVDC) program offers a similar model to the indoor Competitive Training Centre (RTC) program and is offered for competitive and high-performance athletes between 13-16 years old. The BVDC program provides a weekly practice with intensive training focused on developing skills, strategies and tactics that can be put into practice during a league night in partnership with MaxVolley.
BVDC sessions will be held on Sundays in blocks of 2 hours/week between 2pm to 4pm. This clinic will run from May 25th until August 14th at either the MaxVolley Bell SensPlex in Kanata or the MaxVolley Richcraft SensPlex in Beacon Hill.
Recreational Beach
“Practice & Play” and “FUNdamentals Beach” offer pressure-free environments designed to introduce youth, 9-17 years old, to the fundamentals of beach volleyball. These programs will allow athletes an opportunity to improve their skills as well as play matches against other players in a recreational and learning format.
Beach LTP-Rec sessions will be held on Sundays in blocks of 2-4 hours/week between 2pm to 6pm. This clinic will run from June 8th until July 27th for a total of 7 weeks and located at either the MaxVolley Bell SensPlex in Kanata or the MaxVolley Richcraft SensPlex in Beacon Hill.
Indoor Recreational
The FUNdamental programs focus on learning and developing the five core skills in volleyball: passing, setting, spiking, blocking, and defending. Coaches introduce all the core skills in a fun an engaging way allowing athletes to experiment and learn at their own pace. Progressive introduction and instruction of the skills will ensure that the game remains dynamic and fun while learning to play. Recreational programs will offer a variety of drills and gameplay scenarios within the practices and in the case of Game-On limited skill development with a greater focus on gameplay.
The indoor LTP-Rec sessions will be held on evenings during the week between 6pm to 10pm and in blocks of 2 hours per program (FUNdamentals Learn, Train & Play, Practice & Play, Game On!). This clinic will run from June 23th until August 14th for a total of 7 weeks and located in Central Ottawa (Franco-Cite).
Job Summary
Stream 1 - Head Coach
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Head Coaches (HC) are responsible for planning and executing practice plans and providing high quality delivery of the program’s curriculums. The HC’s supervise, lead and mentor assistant coaches, communicate with athletes and parents and perform other required administrative tasks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create a positive, fun and safe environment for participants
- Ensure high quality execution of the Maverick’s program curriculums
- Supervise and direct Assistant Coaches in their roles and responsibilities
- Communicate with support staff regarding administrative tasks
- Ensure a physically and psychologically safe environments for all participants and staff
- Demonstrate drills and techniques
- Provide coaching, feedback and encouragement to athletes in a positive and constructive manner
- Provide a professional and positive experience for all participants
Stream 2 - Assistant Coach
Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach’s (AC) main responsibility is to provide participants with high quality, constructive and positive coaching during on-court practice sessions. They focus on creating team cohesion, developing volleyball skills and promoting positive leadership behaviour.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create a positive, fun and safe environment for participants
- Ensure high quality execution of Maverick’s program curriculums
- Communicate with support staff regarding administrative tasks
- Demonstrate drills and techniques
- Provide coaching, feedback and encouragement to athletes in a positive manner
Locations
Maverick’s day clinics are offered throughout the Ottawa region in different locations:
- East end (Orleans)
- Central Ottawa (Gloucester)
- West end (Kanata/Nepean)
Essential Qualifications
Experience
Stream 1 - Head Coach
- Minimum of 2 years of volleyball coaching experience
- Minimum of 1 years mentoring/training assistant coaches
Competencies & Skills
Stream 1 – Head Coach
- In-depth knowledge of volleyball technical and tactical concepts (skills, techniques, rules, game play, etc.)
- Superior interpersonal skills, especially regarding communication with athletes, mentoring coaches and interacting with parents
- Ability to lead and manage a team
Stream 2 – Assistant Coach
- Knowledge of volleyball technical and tactical concepts (rules, game play, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills regarding communicating with athletes
- Ability to work effectively within a team
