Program Description
The summer camps will focus on developing athletes' fundamental volleyball skills, universal athletic abilities and leadership abilities in a fun and pressure free environment. The camp's goal is to help prepare young athletes for upcoming September try-outs, skill development, in-game tactics and team building skills.
Job Summary
Stream 1 - Camp Director (FULL-TIME)
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, Camp Directors are the onsite lead in facilitating and delivering summer camp programming based on developed curriculums as well as their own professional experience. The Camp Director will be responsible for administrative duties related to the camp, including providing reports as requested, communicating with parents/families, conflict resolution, weather related issues, etc. Additionally, they will direct the assistant coaches and oversee all programming.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervise and direct Assistant Coaches in their roles and responsibilities
- Ensure high quality execution of Maverick Summer Camp curriculums
- Communicate with support staff regarding administrative tasks
- Ensure a physically and psychologically safe environments for all participants and staff
- Demonstrate drills and techniques
- Provide coaching, feedback and encouragement to athletes in a positive manner
- Provide a professional and positive experience for all participants
Stream 2 - Assistant Coach (FULL-TIME & PART-TIME)
Reporting to the Camp Director, Assistant Coaches are directly working with a group of 8-10 participants of the Summer Camps during the week. Their task is to create a positive and safe environment for participants. They focus on creating team cohesion, developing volleyball skills and promoting positive leadership behaviour.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create a positive, fun and safe environment for participants
- Ensure high quality execution of Maverick Summer Camp curriculums
- Communicate with support staff regarding administrative tasks
- Demonstrate drills and techniques
- Provide coaching, feedback and encouragement to athletes in a positive manner
Locations
Maverick’s summer camp is offered throughout the Ottawa region in 5 different locations:
- Orleans
- Gloucester
- Central Ottawa
- Kanata
- Barrhaven
The camps will take place Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30 pm, from June 23rd to August 22nd and will include 1 Camp Director and various Assistant coaches per location. We will be offering a mix of FULL-TIME & PART-TIME roles to assistant coaches, for a total of approximately 15 FULL-TIME & 5 PART-TIME positions.
Essential Qualifications
Experience
Stream 1 - Camp Director
- Minimum of 3 years of volleyball coaching experience
- Minimum of 2 years mentoring/training assistant coaches
Competencies & Skills
Both Streams
- Knowledge of volleyball technical and tactical concepts (rules, game play, etc.)
- Leadership and Mentoring

Assets
- Bilingual (English, French)
- NCCP Certified Development Coach
- Previous experience in summer camps
