Term : Part-time
Salary: 25-30$/hour - Based on experience
Hours: 5-10 hours per week

The Maverick Volleyball Club serves Ottawa and its surrounding communities in providing our youth with high-quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership, organizational, team, and life skills for the benefit of its members. Maverick Volleyball is seeking experienced individuals to operate the clothing and merchandising portfolio for the organization, as a key member of the staff.


Job Summary 

The Communication Officer is responsible for managing the club’s internal and external communications. This includes newsletters, email campaigns, website updates, and some social media activities. The role ensures that all communications are timely, consistent, and aligned with the club’s voice and values. It’s a central role in maintaining strong relationships with members, alumni, and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities include:


Internal and External Communications 
  • Developing and distributing newsletters to internal and external audiences. 
  • Managing email campaigns using platforms like Constant Contact. 
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date contact lists, including segmentation.  
  • Reviews club communications, policies and other materials for clarity  
  • Implements the Communication Strategy  

Website and Content Updates 
  • Coordinating website updates with the Branding and Communications team. 
  • Implements structure of the Active Coaches site to ensure effective flow of information and ease of access  
  • Ensuring timely posting of news, events, and announcements. 
  • Supporting the implementation of the overall communication strategy. 

Meetings and Projects 
  • Participate in weekly team meetings. 
  • Assist team members in various project tasks.  
  • May be required to assist the team with events.


Essential Qualifications 

Experience  

  • Experience writing newsletters 
  • Experience in a community or youth-focused organization
  • 2–3 years in a communications, PR, or digital media role 
 

Competencies & Skills 

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer) 
  • Strong writing and editing skills 
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress) 
  • Basic HTML/CSS knowledge is a plus 
  • Clear and effective communication 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Digital fluency 
  • Time management 
  • Judgement  

Education 

  • Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field 


Asset

Language 

  • Bilingual (English, French) 

Important Information 

This position is new and we expect the workload to be between 5-10 hours per week. That being said, we may discover that it may take up more or less time as we learn more about the role. The successful candidate should expect fluctuations in the estimated weekly hours.

The role is classified as Hybrid. Most work can be done virtually, there may be a requirement for the incumbent to be in person to support club events.

Compensation
