Salary: $20/hour
Hours: 25 hours per week
About Maverick Volleyball
The Maverick Volleyball Club serves Ottawa and its surrounding communities in providing our youth with high-quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership, organizational, team, and life skills for the benefit of its members. Maverick Volleyball is looking to hire a summer student looking to gain hands-on experience with a variety of HR functions.
Role Overview
The HR Generalist will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources team, reporting to the Manager of Human Resources and working closely with the Talent Acquisition Officer. This role is ideal for a Human Resources student seeking hands-on experience with core HR Generalist functions, including HR systems administration, employee data management, recruitment coordination, onboarding support, and HR project work.
The HR Generalist will support the daily operations of the HR function by maintaining accurate employee and candidate records, assisting with HRIS administration, supporting employee lifecycle activities (onboarding, performance reviews, satisfaction surveys, and offboarding), and contributing to departmental projects aligned with quarterly and organizational objectives. This role plays an important part in ensuring HR processes are well-organized, compliant, and effectively support staff and leadership across the organization.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a student to build and refine practical skills before entering the workforce.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Administrative Support
- Assist with organizing and maintaining digital records, scheduling interviews, sending follow-up communications, and other clerical tasks to support recruitment and onboarding workflows.
2. HRIS Platform Management
- Support data entry, onboarding task tracking, and system maintenance within HUMI. Help ensure up-to-date candidate and coach information in the HRIS.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure HRIS information is up to date. Stay on top of offboarding activities.
3. Recruitment Coordination
- Support the Talent Acquisition Officer in posting positions, pre-screening applications, organizing candidate files, and preparing interview materials.
- Stay up to date with the recruiting calendar, support the team in preparing for recruitment phases.
4. Project Support
- Perform a variety of project tasks related to quarterly objectives and projects. The HR Assistant position plays an integral role in attaining corporate objectives.
- Meet regularly with the HR Manager to report on progress.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders to produce deliverables.
5. Employee Data Management
- Prepare performance evaluations for staff, send communications out and compile the data for the HR Manager’s review.
- Prepare and share satisfaction surveys with head-office staff. Compile the results.
- Prepare and share exit interview surveys with departing employees. Compile the results.
6. Onboarding Support
- Monitor the status of new hires’ onboarding checklists, send reminders, and escalate incomplete onboarding tasks as needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Education
- Highschool Diploma (required).
- Enrolled in a post‑secondary Human Resources, Business Administration, or related program.
Experience
- Experience working with multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience (academic, volunteer, or work-based) providing administrative or clerical support in an office environment.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with applicants, employees, and leadership
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate records and follow established processes
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
- Ability to analyze and compile data (e.g., surveys, performance reviews) and present information clearly
- Time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Professional judgment when handling confidential HR information
Assets
- Bilingual (English/French)
- Previous experience working in a sport organization
