Term : September - June
Compensation: Honorarium of $2 000 paid out once in two instalments, December, and May
Hours: 5 hours per week
About Mavs
The Maverick Volleyball Club serves Ottawa and its surrounding communities in providing our youth with high-quality volleyball programs. Our Club takes pride in our successful track record of promoting and fostering leadership, organizational, team, and life skills for the benefit of its members. Maverick Volleyball is seeking experienced individuals to operate the clothing and merchandising portfolio for the organization, as a key member of the staff.
Job Summary
The Coach Mentor plays a vital role in supporting and developing our coaching community. This position is designed to provide guidance, share expertise, and serve as a trusted resource for head coaches throughout the season. Mentors will help coaches strengthen their technical and tactical knowledge, improve team management strategies, and foster positive communication within their teams.
The ultimate goal is to create a collaborative environment where coaches feel supported, athletes thrive, and our Club continues to deliver an exceptional volleyball experience.
Key Responsibilities include:
Coach Support & Development
- Serve as a sounding board and resource for 5–6 assigned head coaches.
- Support mentees in identifying professional goals.
- Provide guidance on technical and tactical aspects of the game.
- Offer strategies for effective team management and planning.
- Share best practices for communication and leadership within the team environment.
Mentorship & Guidance
- Help coaches navigate common challenges before they escalate.
- Provide advice on handling early-stage concerns with parents or athletes.
- Encourage proactive communication and planning to prevent misunderstandings
Collaboration & Escalation
- Work closely with the Program Manager and Coach Support Team for complex issues.
- Refer significant or sensitive matters to the Coach Support Team for resolution.
Optional In-Gym Support
- Attend practices or games upon request to provide additional feedback and support (optional but highly valued).
Essential Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 10 years of head coaching at the senior level (16U and above)
- If an age or stage specific coach must have demonstrated significant contributions as a coach for that age cohort

- Technical & Tactical Expertise: Deep understanding of volleyball systems, strategies, and skill development.
- Leadership & Influence: Ability to inspire and guide coaches toward best practices.
- Communication: Clear, empathetic, and constructive communication with diverse personalities.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled at identifying issues early and providing practical solutions.
- Time Management: Ability to balance mentorship responsibilities with other commitments.
- Conflict Navigation: Capable of de-escalating minor concerns and knowing when to refer complex issues.
- Mentorship mindset: passion for developing others and sharing knowledge.
- Emotional intelligence: high level of self-awareness and sensitivity to others’ perspectives.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with the Program Manager, coaches and other mentors.
- Strategic thinking: help coaches plan ahead to prevent issues and optimize team performance.
Education
- Advanced Development Certified / Performance Coach Trained or Certified
Asset
Language
- Bilingual (English, French)
